Artuke

Baños de Ebro, Rioja Alavesa, Spain

Non-Interventionist & Biodynamic Winemaking

Some wineries are born from ambition. Others are born from inheritance — not of wealth, but of soil, calloused hands, and unfinished work. In the small village of Baños de Ebro, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Artuke stands as the voice of a new generation shaped by nearly a century of family devotion to the vine.

“There is still a lot of work to be done,” says Arturo de Miguel Blanco. It is not a complaint. It is a philosophy.

A Family Raised in the Vineyard

Arturo and his brother Kike Miguel de Blanco grew up among vines. Their parents founded Artuke Bodegas y Viñedos in 1991, but the family’s connection to Rioja agriculture stretches back almost a hundred years. Wine was not a project. It was daily life.

In 2005, the brothers assumed responsibility for the winery. They did not abandon tradition. They refined it. They elevated the ambition. They expanded the portfolio. Most importantly, they made the wines deeply personal — expressions of their own understanding of Rioja.

The New Rioja, Guided by the Old Ways

Artuke represents a modern face of Rioja, yet its foundation is profoundly traditional. The brothers believe in:

  • Non-interventionist winemaking
  • Biodynamic vineyard practices
  • Manual harvesting
  • Foot treading of grapes in fermentation vats

Artuke remains one of the few Rioja producers who still stomp grapes by foot. This ancient practice is not romantic nostalgia. It is deliberate. It preserves texture, structure, and creates the seductive mouthfeel that defines their village wines.

From Artuke Carbonic Maceration (CM) to Pies Rotos, Finca de los Locos, La Condenada, El Escolladero, and Paso de las Mañas, each wine carries precision without losing soul.

Rioja Alavesa: Balance and Finesse

The vineyards lie in the rarefied terroir of Rioja Alavesa, where altitude, limestone soils, and Atlantic influence create wines of remarkable balance. Here, structure meets elegance. Power coexists with freshness.

Artuke wines are full-bodied yet refined. Sophisticated, yet grounded. They carry depth without heaviness and intensity without excess.

“We are from a very small peasant town — and very proud to be,” says Arturo.

That pride is not marketing. It is identity.

In Essence

Artuke is not chasing modern Rioja.

It is redefining it from within.

Through biodynamic care, manual labor, and deep respect for village terroir, Arturo and Kike craft wines that honor where they come from while pushing Rioja forward with integrity and clarity.

These are not wines built on trends.

They are wines built on land, labor, and the belief that the best work is always still ahead.
