Terroir-Driven Winemaking on the Guadiana Border

Some wineries are shaped by history. Others are shaped by land. Coloma stands at the intersection of both — a family-run estate rooted in the unique soils of Extremadura, where every bottle reflects a deep respect for nature, tradition, and place.

“Balance between man and nature” is not a concept here. It is a daily commitment.

A Family Vision, Carried Forward

Coloma is built on the strength of three generations, each contributing to a shared vision of hands-on winemaking. Every stage — from vineyard to bottle — is guided by personal involvement and care.

The estate remains closely managed by the family:

  • Amelia leads vineyard and winemaking
  • Helena oversees management and commercial direction
  • Felix manages international presence and exports

This structure ensures continuity, precision, and a clear identity in every wine produced.

A Distinctive Terroir

Located along the historic Guadiana River, on one of Europe’s oldest borders, Coloma’s vineyards benefit from a rare combination of alluvial, stony, and sandy soils. These soils are rich in rounded pebbles formed over time by the river.

This composition plays a key role in wine quality:

  • Stones retain heat and release it at night, supporting early grape maturation
  • Sandy elements improve drainage and root development
  • Natural moisture retention supports vines during dry summer months

Combined with abundant sunshine and a mild climate, this terroir produces grapes with intensity, balance, and character.

Sustainable Viticulture

Coloma’s philosophy is rooted in sustainable wine production. The estate actively works to preserve soil composition, protect local biodiversity, and adapt to climate change challenges.

Viticulture here is guided by responsibility:

  • Minimal environmental impact
  • Preservation of native flora and fauna
  • Long-term soil health and vineyard resilience

The goal is clear — to maintain the land for future generations while producing wines of consistent quality.

The Winery: Tradition Meets Innovation

The Coloma winery blends modern technology with environmentally conscious design. Built with granite and covered in vines, the estate’s iconic structure — known as Torre Bermeja — reflects both heritage and innovation.

Surrounded by vineyards and ancient olive trees, the winery operates in harmony with its natural environment, reinforcing its commitment to authentic, terroir-driven wines.

The Winemaker’s Signature

All wines are crafted under the direction of Amelia Coloma, whose experience, intuition, and attention to detail define the estate’s style.

Her approach combines:

  • Careful grape selection
  • Deep understanding of vineyard conditions
  • A focus on expressing true varietal character

Each wine carries a personal signature, shaped by both expertise and instinct.
